Home Eviction Notices - A Quick Guide

Latest forecasts predict that in 2011 an increasing number of homeowners will face up to home repossession. If your home is repossessed and you do not move out by the date set by the court you will be issued with an eviction notice.

An eviction notice is an order informing you that you will be removed from your home on a specific time and date. The eviction notice will be personally handed to you at least three days before you are expected to leave. On the date of the eviction the bailiff will explain that you are being evicted and that you must leave the property right away. You will be given a maximum of ten minutes to pack a few personal items. After this you will have fourteen days to collect the rest of your possessions such as your clothes and furniture. If you do not remove your possessions in this time then the bailiff will arrange for them to be disposed of.

You can however attempt to get the eviction process stopped. When the bailiffs hand you the eviction notice they have to give you a form to request another court hearing. You should use this form to explain your circumstances and outline the reasons why you want the bailiff's visit to be stopped or delayed. For the eviction to be stopped you will need to present strong evidence that you are able to clear your arrears and will be able to keep up with your mortgage payments.

Even after eviction it may still be possible for you to get your home back. If the mortgage lender has not sold your house and you can raise the necessary finance to pay off the mortgage then you can apply for an injunction to stop the sale of the property. The exception to this is if contracts have already been exchanged with a buyer. In this case you will be unable to prevent your home being sold.

Investing In Your Own Retail Business

Starting an own business is very attractive nowadays and the best bet for most people is obviously a retail store which can be done quite easily using one's private savings. It would look like the perfect solution to the joblessness that has gripped the nation recently.

Apart from the big perks that the investors expect when they start retail stores, they also want to feel the freedom of being self employed. They imagine the bliss that comes with being their own bosses and also being able to run the whole company.

Maybe this is the chief reason why dollar stores are now seen springing up all over. Not only are they easier to initiate but are also manageable as the investors seek to make good profits.

Once you have made up your mind to start a dollar store, the next item on your mind is the choice of items to stock in your shop. This should be done very carefully since it would greatly determine which type of customers visit your store. It is the way to bring in business and make good profits. Take a look at what is needed.

The common fodder in your store should be the necessary grocery that everyone will require to buy for daily use in the homes. Some of these will be paper made items plus soaps, toiletries and other less costly clothes.

Even with this kind of list of your must have items, you will soon discover that these are not enough and so you must go round checking what more do people need in your area. This time round you will go for what is referred to as the special goods that are not really a necessity for many but which people would buy anyway. Get the whole range by taking a look at what some of the competitors have stocked or else you might have to do a proper survey by sending out fliers.

You will enjoy noting down carefully what to add to your list so that you do not overlook anything that your customers might need.

Once your list is ready, the last thing you will be doing is to go out and shop for reliable suppliers that can give you affordable goods as well as the best terms of business. It is the only way to make it in this kind of business because you will be looking at turnover as well as profits from the mark up price. Remember without a good supplier and the right kind of stock, it would be very difficult to succeed in running a dollar store.

3 Aspects of an Excellent Flower Shop

The three extremely important aspects of running a flower shop are creativity, service and quality. Much of your advertising in the floral business will come from word of mouth. You will want that to be very positive. Always be confident in your business. Give your best in all you do. Make everyone you come in contact with feel important and valuable. By implementing the three aspects of endorsing your business you will come out above the rest.

Of course there needs to be creativity in a flower shop. That is the nature of our business. However, to stand out from the crowd, you need to take your shop to the next level of creativity. Always be one step ahead of the trends. Do this by subscribing to as many professional floral publications as possible. Implement the new styles in the magazines. Do not do the same designs, advertising, and techniques over and over. Your customers want to know they can always trust the work from your shop, but always keep things shook up as little. Keep an element of surprise and new stylishness just around the corner.

The level of service in your shop needs to be outstanding. This is what will bring customers to your establishment instead of going somewhere else. Another store may be cheaper or even easier to access, but your outstanding service will be what brings customers to your store. Will you deliver after hours? Will you deliver on Sunday? Will you deliver at a specific time? These little things mean business. Yes, these extra steps may be a little inconvenient, but how important is building your business? These are extra services you can give your customers practically for free. The extra time spent will pay off in spades. You do not want your business running you, but you can go the extra mile to the extent you feel comfortable. Giving a little extra will come back to you in ways you can never imagine.

Quality is very important facet that intertwines with creativity and service. Do not even bother to go the extra mile if it will not be done with the same excellence with which your shop is known. Do not ever skimp on quality. What is quality? Quality is the general standard of something. It is the essential identifying character of something. So make your definition of quality "the highest or finest standard." Why not do it "the best"? That is how I sleep at night; knowing I did it my best!!

Creatively Wrapped Flowers

The way you present your flower shop does matter. Every little creative detail builds your business as unique and imaginative. That is most definitely what you want. Say your customer has spent a smart amount of time making selections from buckets of flowers. He or she does not want them arranged. What is left? You have to wrap the flowers. Have some ingenious tricks up your sleeve. Now is the time for you to show off and to show off your flower shop.

Wrapping flowers is fun! You can end up with a masterpiece in paper. Presentation of wrapped flowers is important. They will not be put in a vase or basket at this time, but they are a gift. Make the flowers look like a gift. Whatever you do, do not just throw them in some paper and staple shut!! Be resourceful. Here are some ideas to spark you imagination. As well as focal flowers, try to make sure your customers have selected some form of greenery and filler flowers. Tell them the main flowers they have chosen will look much nicer in a vase with greens and filler flowers. Always try to educate your customers, as well as just make a sale. Guide them to what your professionalism knows.

What papers to use? You have many choices. Clear cellophane is a start. This wrapping tied off with a ribbon of course is classic. You may want to try to bring out a color in the loose bouquet of flowers. So you could lay down as clear sheet of cellophane and layer with a colored piece of floral wax paper. Wrap and tie off with a long flowing ribbon. Make a bow with satin ribbon and raffia. Raffia is inexpensive. Use lots of it, just short of taking away from the flowers. The flowers are after all the main event. Raffia ribbon comes in many colors. The raffia brings out the naturalness, garden- like quality of the flowers. You may want to use brown wrapping paper, with a organza ribbon for a European look of just stopping off at the florist on your way home.

I have seen flowers wrapped with the newspaper cartoons as an accent. This may work if it is for a young sick child, or a birthday. Floral and design wax papers can be bought from your local wholesaler. You may want to make the loose flowers into a pageant type presentation bouquet. Tie off with floral bow with long streamers. You may want to loosely arrange the flowers in a nosegay and wrap with cellophane in the color of your choice, for more of a dimensional look.

When wrapping flower do not just lay them on the paper. First, lay down some greens, then add some filler and main flowers. Then repeat, building up as a three- dimensional bouquet, rather than just flowers lying there flat. As an up-sell, tie flowers off with a balloon, a fuzzy, little bear or some chocolates. Always offer water tubes for the ends of the flowers. The customer may not even know they are available. Again, by offering water tubes and explaining what they are and what they are used for, you have just educated another customer. It is especially important to include floral preservative with each bouquet of wrapped flowers. Explain how to use it. By telling your floral customers to re-cut the stems and adding the preservative to the water you will have a happy customer because their flowers will perform better and last longer. I like hearing, "Wow, my flowers lasted two weeks!!"

Potential Side Effects of the Durbin Amendment

The Amendment

Back in July of 2010, when President Obama signed into law the Dodd-Frank Financial Reform Act, merchant lobbyists such as the National Retail Federation hailed it as a huge win for retailers and small businesses in general. But in the wake of Sen. Dick Durbin's Amendment to Dodd-Frank, which transfers the power to set interchange rates on debit cards from the card associations to the Federal Reserve, many are now wondering if there may be unintended consequences on the horizon.

According to the Independent Community Bankers of America, many small banks are poised to reduce customer access to debit cards, and compensate for their expected losses from debit card revenue by raising account fees. Just what we need. With high levels of unemployment and rising costs of food and consumer goods, increased banking fees (not just to merchants - but to consumers as well - the ones the merchants were claiming to want to help) are the last thing families should have to worry about!

The Costs

Fearing potential revenue losses of anywhere from 60-80%, banks are naturally looking for other ways to compensate. Ways they would reduce access to debit include raising the minimum qualification standards, and, closing higher-risk accounts (e.g. by using credit scores). New checking account changes would include doing away with free checking and raising minimum balance requirements and fees across the board.

Is this what merchants want? I doubt it. Of course merchants want to pay the lowest interchange rates possible, but it's unlikely they want to pay the price of being seen by their customers as the cause of unfriendly consumer checking accounts. This could easily end up being seen as more of a "side effect" of a bad prescription than a remedy for the original problem.

Keep Any Files In A Safe Manner With Packaging Boxes

When you run a business the chances are you have to deal with plenty of documents, notably if you want to send merchandise to clients. Cardboard packaging boxes are ideal for having your goods safely shipped to your clients; they will also be handy for holding the numerous documents that, being a small business, you have to hold for approximately six years. Good quality packaging boxes may be used for storage and for carrying items that must be shipped to your clients.

There's really no questioning a regular as well as dependable provision of materials for packaging is what makes the daily tasks associated with a small business carry on a great deal more easily. Having a delivery ready for a client followed by finding that you have run out of packaging material or cardboard packaging boxes can be very troublesome. If you may not have a sufficient amount of boxes for packaging then you'll be unable to make promised deliveries. Companies who regularly fail to make its scheduled delivery promptly, rapidly begin to lose angry customers who were kept waiting for their products.

Give your company a head start above other, equivalent companies by making certain that you use the assistance of an company that can promise routine and ongoing provision of packaging materials. Once you locate a business that can promise just as many boxes for packaging as you may need any time you need them, you will get the edge over others. Your customers are not going to have to complain that they've not received a supply because you will invariably have materials for packaging at hand.

You might only need 1 further packaging box yet, if your web based seller of boxes for packaging contends that you have to buy a certain amount of packaging each time as opposed to only one, it may prove costly. Look for a web-based supplier of cardboard packaging boxes that will supply you with as many or perhaps as few packaging boxes you need every time you order.

If you choose quality materials for packaging it's possible to utilize any additional boxes to keep your archived papers to make sure they are always accessible if you want to check back on anything. Strong cardboard boxes are perfect for holding your files secure as well as out of the path of your respective everyday work environment. Possibly you have seen some places of work in which they have perhaps heaps of documents and crammed lever arch files all over the place. When you decide to store your papers inside a extra packaging box it may stack nicely in a cupboard, leaving a neat office if guests appear.

Plastic Pallets Versus Timber Pallets: Which Are Best?

What are pallets?

Pallets (also know as crates) are used to help transport goods around the country. They do this by providing a solid base on which to place and secure the goods, keeping from the sustaining damage. Also they provide a solid base to both stack and move goods using a forklift truck.

Traditionally pallets have been made of wood, but in recent years with the increase of developments in plastics, they have been made out of this material. But the big question is, which should you choose to use?

Should you use the traditional wood or the new plastic for your pallets and crates?

The advantages of timber pallets

If you choose wood, here's what advantages it gives you:

Cost: Timber pallets made from common and easily available wood can be very cheaply manufactured, which means that can be cheaper to buy, compared to plastics which require a more sophisticated manufacturing process.

Easier to find: If you want to own the pallets yourself then wooden pallets are very easily sourced from most builders' merchants or hardware stores. Plastic pallets are much more specialised and not so readily available to buy.

In fact, with timber crates you could even make them yourself.

Easier to fix: Pallets can have quite a hard life, so often get damaged. However, with wooden pallets you can often easily fix them yourself by simply replacing sections of wood or nails.

Strength: Wood can be very good at taking very heavy weights, which might place too much stress on some plastic crates.

Disadvantages of wooden pallets

Lifespan: Even though wood is quite strong, they will become damaged and wear out relatively quickly. Although they are easy to buy and fix, this can become costly if you need a lot of pallets and you use them constantly.

Storage: Wood can be damaged by water, so if you wanted to keep your wooden crates in top condition then you would have to keep them dry, otherwise they will become damaged even quicker.

Environmental issues: Because wood is a natural resource, and wood pallets have a short lifespan, they use a lot more raw material.

As you can see, wood can make a good choice for short term or smaller businesses. They are cheap and easy enough to repair. However, the bigger your business the more problems and higher costs wood will give you due to their short lifespan.

Advantages of plastic pallets

Lifespan: Plastic can provide a much longer lifespan compared to wood, so can be a much better investment in the long term. They don't require the same amount of repairs or replacement.

Storage: Compared to wood, plastic is much easier to handle and store. Plus it's not affected by water damage.

Environmental issues: Although plastic compared to wood sounds less environmental, it is when you consider that plastic pallets don't need to be replaced as often as wooden crates.

Weight: Plastic crates can be significantly lighter than wood and so much easier to handle and work with.

Hygiene: Plastic is much easier to clean to a hygienic level compared to wood. This is especially important if you are transporting goods such as foods.

Disadvantages of plastic pallets

Cost: The initial cost to buy plastic compared to wood is higher. Although, you can use a pallet rental company and so not have to worry about the costs of ownership.

Repairs: Although less likely to get damaged compared to wood, plastic is much harder to repair and in most cases would need to be replaced.

Conclusions

The best type of pallet or crate for you would probably come down to your situation. If you were a small company dealing with limited goods then wooden pallets might prove to be cheaper as you can easily handle the repairs and replacements yourself.

However, for larger companies the longevity and easiness to use of plastic pallets might make better sense when you're constantly transporting lots of goods. Plus you can find pallet rental (also know as pallet pooling) companies so you don't actually have to worry about buying and maintaining your own pallet fleet.

Outdoing Competition With Efficient Checkout Counters

The numerous stores available to consumers have intensified competition. To stand out, a store must outdo its competition in terms of the customer experience and satisfaction. Efficient checkout counters, good merchandise selection, attractive pricing, and a well-designed store layout can help any retailer outshine competition.

All the elements of a store contribute to the customer's perception of a service; however, the biggest impact could perhaps be at the point-of-sale. It is the make or break point in closing a deal. It is usually in waiting in line at the checkout counter that most customers complain about bad customer service.

To keep this from happening, checkout counters must be designed to be efficient and ergonomic. A good design is characterized by the system's ability to provide maximum productivity while promoting ease in handling merchandise.

The dimensions of a checkout counter are essential and should fit just perfectly for the kind of store. Supermarkets, for instance, are expected to have larger counters to be able to carry more merchandise, speeding up the entire process.

Conveyor belts and bar code scanners are always ideal to have especially for high-traffic stores. These make it convenient for the customer and the cashier staff. It also doubles the transaction time.

Studies show that faster transactions at the counter result to overall cost reduction. Speed of service is always one of the criteria a customer looks at in choosing a store and fast service never fails to impress. This can only happen if checkout counters and the overall layout of the store was designed to make the whole shopping process smooth and fluid.

Designing Efficient Checkout Lanes for Effective Queue Management

Designing layouts for checkout lanes is tricky for any retailer. A store must be able to draft a layout that maximizes efficiency and productivity. A well-calculated design does not only enhance the store's quality of customer service, it can also create additional revenue.

There are specialists who can expertly construe a design that meets the objectives of a store in terms of controlling crowds and queues. However, conceptualizing an efficient layout is highly technical. The end product may be difficult to implement without help.

Depending on the size and traffic, a store can choose to have lane-per-lane checkouts or single-lane queues. Wrong judgment as to the number of lanes increases a business's capital and overhead expenditures. Multiple lanes that hardly ever see queues are just as costly as setting up single lanes that bring unbearably long lines.

Installing as much technology as a store's budget can afford will speed up checkout lanes. Bar code scanners, conveyor belts, a seamless line connection, and electronic call forward systems will cut the time spent on a single customer at checkout.

Apart from crowd control, a checkout lane can also be designed to bring incremental revenues to a store. Customizing the lane and checkout counter with merchandising add-ons such as product panels and displays encourages impulse buying. It can also be a post for marketing and advertising. Stores can decorate the counter with promotional materials for different brands or sales programs.

Designing a strategic layout for checkout lanes is ultimately part of a store's customer service. An effective checkout lane minimizes customer complaints and produces organized and controlled queuing.

Using Large Format Printing to Promote Your Business

Large and wide format printing can create a wide range of signs and displays for your business and can be done on to a wide variety of materials making it ideal for indoor and outdoor use.

Interior Signage in your business can be from the simple and practical such as directions, fire exit signs and door signs to signs that you use to promote your business. Large format posters in a shop can get information on special offers across to customers or you may choose to use banner displays or similar that are easy to put up and down and may look more stylish and in keeping with your shops' look and feel. Get interior signs made in your businesses colours, fonts and designs to really bring out your brand identity. At an office it is very easy to have a space that says little about your business even the reception where people first arrive. Working on interior signage which tells people who you are and where they are can reinforce your brand when clients come to visit.

Exterior signage is vital to get people into your business in the first place, of course you have to get the basics, for example the name of your business so people can find you and what your business is so people know whether they need to come in or not. You may also want phone numbers on the front and other information to entice people in. More than the information that signs actually put across is the image of your business they put across, the quality of the signs is one thing of course, a simple vinyl banner may be good for advertising a special offer or may suffice when you first open but it makes you look temporary and unprofessional if used long term. Get your name up with a sign that will impress, exactly how you do this will depend on the image that you want. If you want to put across that you are a modern business then modern lettering and design are what you want as well as modern materials. If you are more traditional then you may go for calligraphic writing and materials such as wood perhaps with an old fashioned hanging shop sign. Use of window stickers made with printed vinyl can really draw the eye and give extra information and windows tend to be at eye level as well.

Mounted graphics can transform the look of your business be it a shop, a tourist attraction or even an office reception where you want to impress clients. Mounted graphics in shops on durable materials such as MDF can transform a bare unit into a place that pushes your brand values with plenty of imagery, if you run a car showroom it may be you will want images of the cars you sell in everyday use, or perhaps parked outside stately homes, all giving an image of the lifestyle associated with your merchandise. In a child's wear store it may be children at play you want images of to associate your products with happy babies and children. Mounted Graphics could be informational as well such as a menu in a cafe or interesting facts about your business on a board in your reception area. At tourist attractions of course mounted graphics can be used as part of exhibits, giving extra information and using related images, they can even be integrated into interactive exhibits.

It may be that you have a particular promotion or event to promote and banners and posters inside and outside your store can be the best way to make sure people know what's on.

As people walk past many will look into your windows, large sales promotions banners can attract the eye and give across a lot of information quickly, window stickers as well may be even more noticeable as reflections sometimes make posters hard to see though window stickers may not be worth using for short term offers or events.

Outdoor banners however can really be noticeable, people may or may not look into your shop window but a banner actually outside may be more noticeable to people looking straight ahead down a street. Depending on where you are based banners can also attract passing motorists eyes as well and are ideal if you are near a junction with plenty of queueing traffic an offer may be what you need to get them to come in at some point or it may be they will simply notice your business for the first time and bare it in mind for the future. Flags as well on the outside of your buildings or maybe on lamp posts in your car park are even more noticeable and can be used long term to help you stand out.

Use large format printing for your exhibition displays to really stand out with plenty of graphics and colour getting your brand and your message across and hopefully bringing people on to your trade booth.

Get Customers in With New Exterior Signage

Your shop front is the best advertising space you can get. A billboard may put you in people's minds but they may quickly forget or never get round to visiting your business if they don't know where it is. Your shop front if it catches people's attention can get them into your store straight away or make sure they know where to find you.

As with any advertising think about your most wanted response. You may want different signage for different purposes. For example you may want people walking past to come in so signs could be in your windows or on a display board or banner outside giving them a reason to come straight in. A sales promotion may be enough to get them into the store so may be what you want your signs to let people know. Banner displays can be positioned so people can see them as they come along the street and may be stationed before they get to the entrance meaning they have a chance to take in the information and consider entering your store before they pass the entrance by.

It could be that you simply want people to know you are there though and know what you do.You may be happy for them to just bare you in mind and remember where you are in which case a good shop sign with extra information on what you do could be what you need. This could be aimed at pedestrians but also motorists. Motorists going past your business often can't come straight in anyway, they may be busy going somewhere else or there may be no parking to quickly pull over into. Get motorists to remember who you are and what you do as easily as possible, banners and flag banners may be most noticeable and can be positioned facing on coming drivers unlike your shop front that will usually face over rather than along the road.

It may be that the products or services you sell from your shop or other business premises aren't exactly impulse purchases but are the types of things people will need every now and again. For example a dry cleaner's or a bed shop. If this is the case then your most wanted response is very much that they remember you. It could be that you have a noticeable sign that people will see each time they pass meaning that when the time comes for them to buy a new bed they think of you straight away. A location by a major junction with lots of queued traffic is ideal therefore and why many of these types of business locate in these kind of places despite them not always being very convenient for access or parking.

Before Making a Purchase Of Banner Stands

Banner stands are an extremely efficient and cost effective display method. They can be used internally as well as externally, which make them ideal for use as exhibition displays and external signage.

There are many different styles of banner stands on the market. The one that is suitable for you depends on your intended use for it. Consider the following before making a purchase:

Flag Poles

Flag Poles are a lightweight and portable banner stand option. They are suitable for interior and exterior use. They are extremely easy to assemble, the parts simply slot together like erecting a very simple tent. Lots of suppliers offer the Flag Poles as a whole or in parts, meaning they will print your desired design on the flag it self or you can just buy the parts. Flag Poles are available in 3 sizes, 3m, 4m and 5m. The Poles are made with high performance carbon fibre and often come complete with banner tensioning cord, canvas carry bag, a ground spike/base and water bag. The flag is made from spun polyester, with the graphic printed mirror image on reverse. There are two styles of flag that are available, tear drop or feather shape. Flag Poles are an excellent way to advertise your position at an exhibition or outside your office or shop. Due to their size they are very eye catching and will attract passers by to your exhibition stand, office or shop.

Pop Up or Roller Banners

Pop Up or Roller Banners are a compact, lightweight and a portable banner stand option. The standard Pop Up Banner is 2000mm high by 800mm wide, which provides a large graphic size. Most suppliers will offer a print service where you can have your graphics printed onto the banner. The banner graphic rolls up into the base, allowing you to easily transport it. Roller Banners often come complete with a carry case to ease transportation. The banner it self is supported by a strong metal rod that keeps the banner up right. The base has two feet that twist out to stabilise the display. Give your promotion maximum impact with this stylish eye-catching banner system. Quick to put up and easy to use, this banner system is ideal for the exhibition environment.

Banner Rails

If you already have graphics there is no point in spending extra money in reprinting the designs on to banners. Instead opt for a banner rail. Hang your graphics as banners from cables using banner rails, passing through a loop at each end of the graphic. The rail has a 12mm diameter aluminium tube which slots through the loop in your graphic. This option is an easy to use but visually stunning banner display. It allows you to use the entire length of the rail and fix the banner easily to the cables. This system is easy to carry and assemble, the cables are the only moving part. Due to their size they will attract passers by onto your exhibition stand, where they can view your displays. There are many different banner rails on the market. One thing to consider is the width of your graphics. Your supplier should have the facility to make a banner rail to fit your graphics exactly.

Not only are banner stands an excellent display option for exhibitions, they make an exciting point of sale display. Why not use banners to advertise sales or products of the week? Use them out side of your office or shop to direct passers by to your position.

What ever you need a banner stand for, your supplier will be able to advise you and will be happy to help.
